　　The approach of the Chinese Lunar New Year poses a national issue concerning the necessity of holding the CCTV Spring Festival Gala.

　　Its established status is being challenged by a growing number of people, especially by younger generations. It's increasingly difficult to cater for all tastes.

　　Some individuals deem that it should be canceled or replaced by other programs. These young people focus their attention on other forms of celebration instead of immersing themselves in TV.

　　Most of people view this gala as an annual staple on the traditional Chinese Spring Festival Eve. They all have a restless night and glue their eyes on the television.

　　I live in Panyu and I love it very much. There are many places we can enjoy ourselves. Bao Moyuan is one of the interesting places in Panyu. There are a lot of gold fish in the artificial lake. Some people sell fish food everywhere. You can spend five yuan buying one bag and feed the fish. That’s fun.There are also many big trees, colorful flowers. The nests of birds are on the big trees, they all enjoy themselves very much. Of course, I can have fun every time when I go there.

　　Another beautiful place I want to mention is Lotus mountain . That is a good place for praying.. The most important part of it is the tall statue of Guangying. Many people visit there and pray good luck for their families, their marriage, their career. You can also enjoy trees, flowers, waters, stones there. 　　A test of spoken English has been included as an optional component of College English Test (CET). Some people argue that it is absolutely necessary to hold a test of spoken English in China because we have been informed frequently that a Chinese student who has been learning English for over ten years cannot even communicate with a native speaker. A test of spoken English will bring the college students an awareness of the importance of oral English, and will thus help them with their communicating skills.

　　On the other hand, some others still maintain that a good command of reading and writing skills will be enough for the English learners. To some extent their opinion derives from the fact that students are already under considerable pressure from their coursework. Another required test will only add to their burden.

　　In my opinion, a test of spoken English does more good than harm. Since China will continue its policy of opening and reform, the ability to speak English fluently is a must for anyone who wants to surpass others in a highly competitive society. Whether I take the test or not, I shall spare no efforts to practice oral English in the remaining years of my college study.
