　　國慶節是每個國家的重要節日，但名稱有所不同。許多國家叫“國慶節”或“國慶日”。

　　還有一些國家叫“獨立日”或“獨立節”，也有的叫“共和日”、“共和國日”、“革命日”、“解放日”、“國家復興節”、“憲法日”等，還有直接以國名加上“日”的，如“澳大利亞日”、“巴基斯坦日”，有的則以國王的生日或登基日為國慶日，如遇國王更替，國慶的具體日期也隨之更換。

　　“國慶”一詞，本指國家喜慶之事，最早見于西晉。

　　西晉的文學家陸機在《五等諸侯論》一文中就曾有“國慶獨饗其利，主憂莫與其害”的記載、我國封建時代、國家喜慶的大事，莫大過于帝王的登基、誕辰(清朝稱皇帝的生日為萬歲節)等。
